Help on engine swap question
Ok I know this has more than likely ben covered but I have read for hours now and I figured I may as well just ask.
This is the idea, I have a 1991camaro vert RS with the TBI 305 and the engine is getting weak, I thought that I could maybe with the help of everyone on this board figure out how I couldswap in a 350 TPI motor out of a 1988 Camaro Iroc.
The TPI motor is supposed to be for my 82 camaro and I have all the wireing for it, but I think that the 82 would be better suited for a LS1 6 speed swap.
so to recap I would like to put the 88 TPI motor into the 91 camaro RS, is it possible or am I just wasting my time thinking about it?
also what would I do about the computer and wireing stuff in the 91?
Thanx.

You're right! It's in here all over the place.
It's not a difficult job, but it is time consuming. Of course it can be done and it is not an unreasonable request.
You should search the engine swap forums for changing the physical engines stuff and then search the electronics and TPI sections for the wiring swap info. It's in there; that's where I got it from.
One piece of advice; take it or leave it. Swap the 305 to 350 first. Just do a long block swap (block and heads assembled) to get it running first. After stage 1 is complete and you are back on the road, then go to stage 2. That will be wiring, fuel lines, and fuel pump.
Good luck! Hopefully you have a complete parts car because that makes it much easier!!
See ya!

my other idea i thought may be easier to do, although I still would rather get the 350 TPI in there, it just looks so much cooler.
I was wondering if i just swapped in a 350 long block from a 96 chev truck like the vortec one, would i have to modify my computer in the car now, Ive read and heard roomers proving that I would have to change the computer and that I wouldnt.
I was thinking the 91 is a speed density system, i may be wrong, but if I used the injectors from a 350 TBI and left all the factory wireing and computer alone it should work - im just not sure I test these theorys.
I guess I should check with the wireing and prom guys and see what they have to say as well.
thanx.

If you use your 350 truck engine, you should still just go long block. You can include your intake and throttle body only if they are EXTREMELY similar to the f-car pieces. Your stuff is probably okay.
You should still use all of your factory front accessory drives and accessories off of the car as these are slightly different to allow a better fit.
You can tune the setup you have to make it super but it will run as it is when you fire it up.
Good luck!

The TBI forum covers 305 -> 350 conversions thoroughly. You will have to do some PROM tuning (all of the TBI years were SD systems). A '96 truck engine has Vortec heads, which is a good thing, but requires a Vortec-specific manifold (available in TBI style).
Personally, I'd do the truck engine and do what you need to do to the TBI. Much simplier with good results possible.
