im not sure if this is the right place to post this or not i hope so im having a 350 2-bolt main block converted to a splayed 4-bolt and having the pistons match honed and all the clearencing for 6" rods and 3.75 stroke and then a baisic block prep a local reputable machine shope quoted me $949 i think is this about right seemed kinda high to me but ive never had it done so i dont really know

I think that sounds cheap for machine work. There is no such thing as very cheap machine work. You're paying labour rates and doing that kind of work is labor intensive.
Even sending the rotating assembly out to be balanced can easily cost $500 and since you're using a non factory rotating assembly, it should all be balanced.
The only way you can get dirt cheap rates is if you find someone who knows what they're doing and has a very low overhead.

I thnk that is a pretty good price considering I just got basic's done on my 400 block last year which didn't include the splayed caps but everything else was done and I had steam holes drilled in my bowtie heads and it came up to $1379.84 minus $125 for bearings. I thought that was real high. and they had it for around 2 months. good luck on your build.
