its a small block chevy so yea the tranny will bolt up. depending on what you have you may need to change small things like flywheel if you go from a 2pc rear main to a 1pc. the only tranny that is not interchangeable are the 6cyl. if you start with a v8 it doesent matter what other v8 you put in it. as long as its a sbc.

Yes, they are the same.. small block chevy engines are the same from 55-92 in most cases as far as bolt pattern the Big blocks are the same also , the 265,267,283,305,307,327,350,and 400 small blocks all share the same mounting for the engine mounts and bell housing except the early 265 and 283s that used a ear type mounting system in 55-57 for the engine mounts .any TH-350, power glide,TH-400, or 700r4 with the standard chevy bolt pattern will bolt up , there are also buick , olds , pontiac (BOP) transmissions that look simmilar but use a different trans to engine pattern , and the V6 transmissions (60deg) won't work but the 90deg (4.3) will work with a V8 so you have some options as far as what will work , but if you dont want to change anything but the engine you are OK with the stock trans for the 305 as long as you don't have too much HP 700s are noted to be weak with high HP engines..
