Engine Identification

So heres the story. My car is an 87 Camaro that USED to be a 2.8l but was converted to an eight cylinder..... Im trying to determine exactly what 8 cylinder (size/year/model) it is though. Where is the easiest I.D. number to get at or see for that matter?

Look for the casting number on the block behind the driver side head.
