If the f-body has a V8 now, just put the Caprice long-block in place of the original engine.
If V6, then you're going to have to decide whether to replace an entire harness along with sensors, relays, pumps, etc., or go with a simpler non-computer carb set-up. If you have to meet emissions inspection requirements, you don't have much choice but to go with the EFI set-up.

"Pre-computer f-body"? Is this a Canadian car?
You don't need to save anything from the Caprice if you don't computerize it. If you want to use the Caprice computer equipment, you need all of the wiring that goes to the engine, all sensors attached to the harnessing, the ECM, and the fuel pump that goes in the fuel tank - although it probably won't work in an f-body - along with fuel lines, and probably throttle cables. A big question (that I can't answer) is how much of that would transfer directly to the f-body. I'm sure the answer goes something like, "not all".

thanks for the quick reply i'm trying to figure out what wires to save from the caprice.I've taken the dash out and you could fill a five gallon bucket with all the wires under the dash. How do i figure out exactly what wires i should keep?Thank you very much for the help.....Greg

It would help to know more about the car it's going into.
Is this a 2nd gen, perhaps?

Okay, we're stretching the bounds of Board rules in that case. I'll continue on the basis that the discussion could apply to a Canadian who is considering a similar swap into his non-computerized 3rd gen.
Are you really wanting to put the Caprice EFI into your Camaro? If so, there are a few benefits, but the hassles are many. With the price 1st gens are commanding these days, it would seem to be a value degrade. But, the Caprice engine has some value itself, mostly the shortblock. The rest of the engine - heads, cam, induction - are not performance pieces, and would detract from general performance in a 1st gen. To put the TBI EFI into your car would involve some hacking and a lot of one-off fabrication. But, it can be done. It would make more sense to get all of the equipment, and then get a Painless harness to install it (and I'm making a leap here assuming Painless even makes such a harness).
If you really want EFI, I'd go with an aftermarket system such as Holley or Edelbrock make. I'd also dump the Caprice heads and put on Vortecs, or most any aftermarket head that matches the performance cam you install.

hey thanks yes i know she'll be a little slower but i don't have a motor in it and i have this donor car(91 caprice) that i've stripped the motor out of.I'm not so much looking for blinding performance as i am just a dependable, easy to start in the winter car.I believe painless only uses the truck computer for thier harness.I was hoping i could do something with this harness but it has 50 miles of wire in it and i'm unsure what i could remove from the harness..Thank you for helping me........Greg

It would be much, much simplier, and probably even cheaper, to put a carb intake and carb on the longblock. Winter starting is not a problem with a properly set up and operating carb. The only issue you might have is the lack of a mechanical fuel pump mount on the block (at least a fully machined one), but if it has that, a mechanical pump and rod are simple to install. Even if you have to use an electric fuel pump, it won't be any harder to do than installing an electric pump for the TBI.
