build a 350 or buy a ls1

i have a 350 block bare, what is the best route build the engine for 400hp or buy an ls1 and nitris it. because building the engine i still think ill have to buy a tranny so what you think, and im also trying to keep it smog legal

Do you have to keep it smog legal? If so I'd imagine that would be alot simpler with the ls-1, also fuel econ. would be much better with the ls-1. If you can afford and know what all your getting into with the ls-1 you should go for it.

Although a 350 with a decent cam and vortec heads can achieve 400 hp and more torque, reliably and pretty inexpensively. Plus tuning a carb is a bit simpler than a computer, unless you were planning on fuel injection on the 350-which would also be cool.

Do an LS1, you can hit 400 without the bottle with a good h/c/i setup.
