fastest stock bottom end 305
I was wondering what I could expect out of an Lg4 with milled .030 vortec heads, 268 cam, rpm intake and a 650 carb. I'm sure someone has beat me to it but I havent found it yet. I also have a th-400 trans.

Define "stock".
The famous magazine article built up a stock bottom 305, using bigger and better parts as they went along. When they got to the Vortec heads, single plane intake and huge cam, they were pulling over 400 horses on the dyno.
Then the bottom end blew up.
There are a couple of guys around here who have gotten amazing results out of 305's - one with a supercharger, one NA. However, theirs were anything but stock bottom ends.
The build you proposed would be decent and make pretty good power. You wouldn't be the fastest 305, but you would probably be high up in the safest fastest stock bottom 305 crowd.

I thought mwnova was using a stock bottom end 305 at one point? And i'm guessing the other member you mean would be Tim Burgess? I know there is another member on here with a procharger on a 305 (no idea if it's a stock bottom end), but 500RWHP or so. Black late model Camaro Z...
Anyway those parts work awesome on a 350, very common. So if you do blow up the 305, or decide to just upgrade to a 350, you can always move those parts straight over to a 350. I think you've made a good choice of parts there.
I'd guess 300HP at the crank without troubles. The TH400 is overkill, and will drag away some power unfortunately. You may want more gear out back than 3.08, since the 305 is a little shy on torque. Your call.

My old 305 had a stock bottom end, comp 224/230 cam, holley intake and 650 doublepumper. I never ran it at the track but i did beat my friends car and he ran a 14.2.

Yeah, thats what I had in mind, was if the engine blew just put everything on a 350, but i was worried about the heads being milled, I dont know if you could just use a thicker head gasket or not to help make up the difference. As far as the th400 I agree its overkill and I'm looking at putting a 700 back in it, justy nobody seems to have one right now, but thankls for the advice and help.

Dished pistons are a better idea than thicker head gasket. But, you can compensate for the smaller chambers. Might make more sense to sell the heads to someone who wants the smaller chambers and buy new with the proper 64cc chambers.
Throw a rod, figure on a new cam as well.

I had a stock bottom end 305 that i aprayed with 170 shot of nitrous and it still had the same compression when i took it out as when it was installed. I really abused that motor I dont se the diffrence between that and a 350 they are both sbc. The car ran high 11's and pulled mid 1.5 60's all season long.
