yank the crossfire?

I have been bouncing every possibility around in my head. Can't get the parts to fix the crossfire, found the parts to change the crossfire over to lo3.

Am I asking for more headaches? Should I just get some BIG motor from a junkyrd and swap the whole thing? The lu5 is rated at only 165hp.

What would be a easy, reliable, low buck, performace swap.

Any and all help thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

THX Waldo

Easy, reliable, low buck, performance? Pretty simple - start with a carb.

Carb intake like a Performer or Action+, carb like a q-jet or Holley, distributor like HEI with vacuum and mechanical advance, a few odds & ends like throttle cables, brackets, hoses, etc.

Then exhaust from front to back - use '86-'90 TPI single-cat application parts for headers, cat (if you need it), and cat-back.

Cam, like Comp XE262, or higher if you're willing to go with a higher stall torque converter.

Port the heads and have 1.94" intake valves put in, better valve springs.

Then, when the urge to go even faster hits you, get a 350 shortblock and put all that stuff in/on it.

Now, a question for you: Emissions?

emissions requirements is whats going ot make this difficult and of course originality will no longer be a factor with this car once you did remove all the C/F stuff, if thats what you do

if it were mine and it was C/F and broken and parts to fix it right were too much then id most likely step it down to TBI since its already a factory FI car and so you wont have to deal with converting to mechanical Fuel pump

but you would need to swap the ECM and harnesses im pretty sure

but you could keep the current engine and stuff, just swap the intake for TBI one

and TBI stuff is dirt cheap and common as dirt

so.......

just my $.02

it really depends on what you want

do you want it to be a good running daily driver again, or do you want to tear it apart and dream about it being a race car and BBC powered and so on that will cost all kinds more $$$ and will cause you to not be able to drive it for a very long time in the future, if ever again at all(emissions inspection failures)

good luck

Hey, If you are ditching the Crossfire setup I'd be interested in buying it from you. Broken or not, I've been looking for a setup forever and am unable to find one. What exactly do you mean by broken anyway???

Regardless, if you are getting rid of it, I am VERY interested in buying it from you. Let me know, Send me a PM!!

croosfire will be history

I have found a 1992 chevy van with a 350 toi and 700r4. I am a happy camper my prayers have been answered.

I think it's about 200hp stock, I get the whole van so get all the wiring and computer. The crossfire block will get manifold carb and hei and go in my jeep.

The crossfire is all there, one tbi is froze up, it's not the right chip in the ecm and the tbi's are a bit corroded it sat for years with the air cleaner off.

the 350 and 700r4 is going in a 82 z28. anyone know what mounts I can use or do I have to make some?

I already have someone interested in crossfire parts but if it falls through I will let you know.

Thanks for all the help.

The engine mounts are the same.

The TH700 is longer than your '82 transmission. That moved the rear crossmember back, making it shorter (the frame members are in a "V" shape where the crossmember mounts), and leaving you two holes short in the frame. You'll need a later crossmember, and do something to matchdrill the back two holes (one on each side) and get a nut/washer up in the frame section. The driveshaft and torque arm will also be shorter.

Easiest is to get them all from a later car (V6, V8, auto or manual tranny doesn't matter, as long as it's a TH700 or T5 car). That will also affect your catalytic converter mount that bolts to the torque arm mount on the tranny.
