305 to 400 swap

i got an 87 camaro Iroc. im thinking about taking out my 305 TPI engine and putting in a 400 sb carburated. what all would i need to change to get this to work?

it all depends if you are looking to keep emmission. it will not pass with a carb engine. the 400 will bolt right in. and you should be able to swap over stock sensors, like fan switches, oil temp, water temp. other than that all you need is ignition, choke, a fuel regulator, carb, fuel lines, intake ect.

there is probably a few other little things but this should give you a start

i aint worried about emmisions at all, i dont have it in my state, so it wont be a problem. thanks for the help. anything else anybody can think of?

Fueling is probably going to be the most PITA thing you have to deal with.


you could slap a AFPR ont here and keep the stock intank electric pump, but your best off to remove the intank pump and replace it with a carb pickup unit (run larger lines while your at it) and use a mechanical fuel pump.

You will need a externally balanced flywheel/flexplate. Most will recommend you upgrade your cooling system. You will run into other small exceptions as you go along. Every swap is different for every person.
