how to get a 330HP Crate motor to 380rwhp?

I have posted here before about getting the 330HP 350ci H.O GM Crate engine (Saving atm).
What i want to know is what mods will i have to do to this engine to get around 350>380RWHP.
The Engine alone is $3,300 + $360 (intake) + $250 (flexplate) + $500 (NEW 650DP) + $390 (Shorty headers) + $200 (custom Y pipe) the rest i got already, Sofare im upto $5,000 I DON'T want to go over $6,000 if i can help it.

If you can help THANKS!!!

Just to note i want these numbers coz my dad just picked up a VL Commodore Formula with a 350 That is getting around 300RWHP in a 500kg lighter car, I can't let him beat me!

First advice is not to start with a crate motor. You will be discarding most of the parts. You will need a motor that is well into the 400hp range to get 350rwhp. You will not be doing that with crate motor parts.

Keeping with what 1989GTATransAm is saying, get a shortblock and some AFR heads and you will be well on your way. Maybe take those shorty headers and y-pipe and switch it to a good set of long tubes with 1.75" primaries.

It is just the 330HP 350 H.O has Vortec heads, i thought that would be an advantage.
Yeah i have had this problem in the past tho the Shorty Headers are the ONLY headers other then a custom made set that will fit a RHD 3rd gen.

Re: how to get a 330HP Crate motor to 380rwhp?

380rwhp is about 465hp at the flywheel/flexplate.. give or take 10-15hp.. you have quite a way to go.. just strap on a 150 shot and there you have it.. and you are under budjet.. just dont forget to tune her nice or there goes your pride and joy..

OR

like BigDreams93 and 1989GTATransAm said, start with a shortblock and build from there.. good solid shortblock, AFR heads, solid roller cam, vic jr. intake, 650 or 750DP and there you have it..

Re: how to get a 330HP Crate motor to 380rwhp?

Thats about 475hp at the flywheel. Good luck getting that out of a daily driven 350. I would up the cubes, nitrous, supercharge. LS1's make that kind of power and are still daily driveable. Something like this might do it in a 350.
10:1 comp.
AFR fully ported 180 or 195cc heads
comp hyd. roller 242 248 540 562 there are other choices but you get the point, you need a big cam, more gear and alot more stall 3000+. All of this will yeild $hity low end torque and the peak hp your looking for along with low vaccum. Bump it up to a 383 or 406 and your goal will be alot easier. Know heres were someone says they drive everyday with a cam like that and 8in of vaccum at idle.By the way if its not a daily driver, you could do it all motor.

Easily done. I pull 274rwhp with my zz4. You only need 380hp-400hp at the flywheel for that goal.

350
vortec heads with the proper valvesprings
9:5.1 COMP.
comp.cams 276hr 224 230 502 510 110 lobe seperation
1 5/8-1 3/4 true dual
A 2500 stall and 3.42 gear would help.
Now after all that I hope you have a solid tranny and an extra 7.5rear hanging around.

Thats right you have the L69 like I did. You should have 3.73s, so thats a plus but once you put some sticky tires on there the 7.5 won't last for that long.

Re: how to get a 330HP Crate motor to 380rwhp?

7.5?
Ok i don't earn enough to go to radicle atm, if I just go with the 350 H.O Crate engine (for now, can upgrade parts later) What small (up to $1,000) mods could i do to increse the HP and what would be the best way to get that power to the ground? (up to $2,000 for drivetrane ATM)
Would a good 5speed manual with a stronger diff be the way?

7.5" rear end. Notoriously weak eh?

Steeper gears (depending on what you have now), higher stall convertor (a must!), or a slightly bigger cam. Those are all good ideas for under $1000. I don't remember what the 330HP crate has for a cam, but you could probably do better. Decent vortecs with the right cam can get you to 400HP (Crank). Get the stall speed and gears right and you're cooking with gas.

Re: how to get a 330HP Crate motor to 380rwhp?

ZZ4 or LT4 Hotcam into the HO350 330 HP crate engine is 415-425 FWHP when tuned properly.

I put 358 RWHP to the wheels with a dished piston 9:1 350, ported Vortecs, ZZ4 cam, Marine TBI intake w/marine TBI unit, and 1 5/8" header primaries with dual 2 1/2" exhaust.

I get about 13-15 city and 18 mpg highway, BUT it is pulling around a 5,300 lbs Fullsize Van with 3.08 gears.
