Pre-Vortec timing cover/balancer on Vortec short block?
I did a search, couldn't find an exact answer, hopefully this is easy for someone to answer!
Picked up a Vortec block for a future project.
The Vortec blocks use a plastic timing cover, crank sensor in that cover, as well as apparently a different balancer. What I'd like to do is run the steel timing cover off of an earlier roller cammed motor (L98, etc) as well as my current balancer.
Is it as simple as removing the Vortec timing cover/crank sensor/reluctor/balancer/pulley and replacing with the "older" stuff, or are there any other issues I will run into?
I don't foresee any, as the crank is the same so I've been able to deduce by reading previous posts, but want to make sure I don't need to re-think this any. Thanks!

Some times I find one cover hole missing but that's all.
Also look to make sure the water pump bypass hole is there.
