Some quick lt1 questions
My uncle is giving me anything that I want off of his now totaled 94 z28, so one of the things that I'm taking is his lt1, 700r4 and rear axle. My question is, since I have the car to take what I need from, I have access to the computer, exhaust, radiator and anything else I may need also.
First question is when I swap in the engine, and computer, will I need to make any changes to the harness from his car, or will I need to splice it into mine?
Second question, will my Hooker 2055s work with his engine, and if they wont can I use his manifolds?

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
Fans would be good to take... LT1 had a dual fan setup that was better than the L98 dual fan setup. If you are going to use the LT1, probably not a bad idea to take the computer too, thought I don't know if you'll need it or not.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
i plan on using the dual fans (mine has a single), and computer for the lt1, but I'm not sure how much work it would be to set it up in my car.
is there anything I'm going to have to deal with as far as anti-theft goes? If I have to, I could probably even switch my car over to take his key, like I said, the cars going to scrap and I can have anything I want out of it.

Take the computer, wiring harness, radiator & dual fans. I doubt his car has a 700R4, all automatic LT1's came with 4L60E. You will have to get the VATS programmed out of the computer.
There will be some cutting and splicing of wires involved. Do a search for more info.
2055 Hooker will work.

I've heard about a wiring harness that you can buy, I couldnt find it in searches, but I may just be searching wrong. Is this true?

There is one that you can buy from painless probably. However, you would still have to locate the thirdgen wires and splice them in. Most of us have decided to not pay $500, I'm guessing, for this harness when all of the wires are already there in the stock LT1 harness.
It is a little hard trimming down the LT1 engine and interior harnesses to get what you need. Once you get it trimmed down, there is only around 20 wires or maybe less to splice in.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
got another question. there are three fuel lines in the 94, but two in the iroc, what is the third one for, and do i need it
Re: Some quick lt1 questions
your thirdgen should have 3 lines also. The third line is for the charcoal canister and the crankcase ventilation. It helps with gas mileage, you might get 1 or 2 more mpg. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more information on it.
Its not needed. You can vacuum cap off the third line on the thirdgen. On the LT1, you have to program out the valve.
I removed all that stuff on mine and put vacuum caps where needed.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
well, I bough a new car, and put off the engine swap so that I can take my time, and its back to some questions. where have you guys put your computers? i mean I can find all the info for wiring them but I never quite understood whether that was for the computer in place of the stock one, or under the hood like it is on the 4th gen.
and I heard that you can use a motor mount from a caprice instead of cutting the stock one, is that true. I want to keep the a/c and if I dont have to mod my mounts its preferable.
and can I use the airbox from my car, or will I have to try to use his, or just make a new one. i was thinking that I may try to fab up a cold air intake into the fender if I can, or box off where the emisions can goes and put it there.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
I made a custom harness and mounted it in the stock location under the kick panel. I then blocked off the bulkhead connector and ran the fuel injection wires out the same hole the wiper wires run out of and up and under my corvette covers. It made the engine wiring harness hidden. I would post pics, but once I had it done the car was stripped for paint.
BTW. take the 4th gen interior and sell it. you can make a few extra $$ to finance your project.
Proir to all that work, heres were the pcm "hung out"
kinda ugly, but it worked.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
I have most of my wires going through the pre-existing huge hole where the thirdgen heater wires go through. Its that huge hole right by the heater box. I had to loosen the box on the interior side and had to take out my dash to do that, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to put the pcm connectors through. It was no problem since I have a 4th gen dash, it doesn't take near as long to take out a dash. I had to extend maybe 8 wires. The computer is where the stock thirdgen computer was. Also have the wires that go to Connector C100 and C105 going through there. I'll post pics after I get the engine bay painted and the LT1 back in.
I'm researching the caprice motor mount clamshell today. If it doesn't cost too much new, I'll buy one and try it out. If not, I'm going to look for a used one. I've grinded down a stock thirdgen clamshell and it looks like I grinded down too much.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
thanks for the help, hopefully I'll be able to find the time to get started on the swap some time soon, but lately theres just been too much going on.
as far as the 4th gen interior, i already put the seats in my car, and am debating a dash swap, more for convienience than anything because when I swap in the 4l60e i need an electric speedo.
im debating how i want to do the fuel lines. what did you guys do, I was considering trying to splice the 4th gen ones to the 3rd gen ones, but im not sure how that would hold up in the long run. i know there is a site that sells custom ones, but i really dont want to spend 300 if i dont have to.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
so, any word on that clam shell?
Re: Some quick lt1 questions
The engine mount bracket(clamshell) for a 95 caprice is discontinued brand new through gm. I'm going to check if some of the auto or racing stores around here sell them.

Re: Some quick lt1 questions
so, this is proabably a dumb question, and I'll give it a shot anyway, but has anyone tried the 4th gen motor mounts?
