Need help - engine swap question
Need help - engine swap question
My '91 firebird has a v6 3.1L in it and it needs replaced. The replacement engine i found is a 305 out of an '87 camaro. Will the old tranny mount right to the 305 or will i need a new tranny? The old tranny is the stock manual 5sp. If i do need a new tranny what would you suggest, keep in mind i dont have a TON of money to invest and I dont have a good enough driving record to be interested in turning the firebird into a pure racing car

you would at least need v8 motor mounts, a v8 bellhousing for the trans, and i dont know much about the v6 t5 but im quite sure you need a v8 t5 as well.

Welcome to thirdgen.org.
Read over the sticky at the top of this forum about V6 to V8 swaps.
You can also search the Transmission and Drivetrain forum about the specifics of the V6 T5. Basically, the V6 is completely different internally from the V8 T5, and is weaker, as if V8 T5's weren't already weak enough. So, find another transmission.
