TEst Fitting the BBC

I droped in the 427 yesterday for a test fit, mock up.

We took the heat and ac stuff out, bolted a powerglide to it and dropped it in.

It was the easiest engine install I have done! Sat right on the mounts and the motor mount bolts slid right in!

It all fit great. The tall valve covers cleared the pwer brakes as well.

I had to take the front cover off the wiper motor, but I think I can mod it to fit.

I was expecting it to bottom out my springs but it did not.( they are not stock)

I was going to sit the headers in place first, but I need to grind on the flanges to clear the head studs.

Hookers instructions says to put the motor in first.

From the look of it, it doesn't look that bad. I have heard they are a nightmare.

I might try installing them with the motor in, but it will come back out, so I might try to sit them in place then drop the motor.

RIght now, it is sitting on the stock motor mounts. I have some moroso solid, but it looks like you have to take the springs out to get to the nuts on the stock frame mounts.

I also have a set of moroso trick front springs that I plan to install, so I was waiting til then to change the mounts.

The only interference I saw as with my pan.

I am running a B&B Bracket pan, and the drag link just barely touches on the passenger side. Not a big deal, the solid mounts might raise the motor just enough to clear.

I have my jongblod hood on, and it closes. Running a Victor 454 0 intake and a 4500 carb. Looks like about 2-3" of clearance.

ANd, my drag ready wheels and tires!

Re: TEst Fitting the BBC

puttin` together a nice little package there, I`d say your off to a great start! those hookers are easy when you drop the bullet down on them but you should learn how to get`em in & out while the motor is in chassis, you`ll be pulling them out more than you expect, believe me. you running a roller or a flat tappet, what kinda trans and rear ger /tire size, wheels look good! this looks like a track only with those front runners, is it?

Re: TEst Fitting the BBC

When I had Hookers, I tried putting them in with the engine still in. Took me 9 hours. It's easier with the engine out since you'll probably pull the engine a few times doing test fits until the headers are in perfectly.

Those rocker covers get dirty easily. Give them a coating of something. Pick a color of paint or give them a clear coating to seal the porous aluminum.

Have fun changing #7 spark plug

Thanks for the input.

Its a solid roller cam. Tranny will be a glide (has a stock one in it for mock up) 9" rear, I am thinking 4.30 gears.

The car is going to be a bracket car, but I will drive it to local cruises!

Front tires are Moroso Drag spacials.

The intake is already cleared, so I will probably clear the covers to match.

As for the #7 plug, I am removing the booster due to my gynormus cam, so hopefully it won't be too bad!
