V6-v8 conversion questions

Well i read the sticky about this, but if i got a 350 say outta a second gen or any used 350, will the stock headers be a problem with a stock 3rd gen v8 exhuast? Not concerned about emmissions. Want to have a stock 350 with just a holley carb and some small bolt ons. Also is there anyway to still use the 2.8 radiator? Have some more questions but just cant think at the moment

I don't believe 2nd gen exhaust manifolds will fit in 3rd gen chassis. But, they might. However, if they do, you can almost take it to the bank that stock 3rd gen exhaust won't bolt to it - certainly not V6 exhaust.

2.8 V6 radiators don't work with V8's. In 1990, when they went to the 3.1, they used the same radiator as V8's.

Re: V6-v8 conversion questions

So my best bet to make the swap simpler is to get a engine out of a thirdgen. Also say i get a carbed 305, i know ill get flamed for that lol, will that quadra jet still function without it being hooked up to the computer?

It'll "run" but you will not get any timing advance with the stock distrib.

Re: V6-v8 conversion questions

If you had gauges stock, they will.
I had an idiot cluster in my V6 Bird, and in order to get my gauges working, I needed to swap in an interior V8 harness. From what I hear all Camaro harnesses are the them.
Ignore this if you have factory gauges, all will work, except the tach, as you noted. Either swap out the V6 tach for a V8 or swap out the resistor if you can solder.
