Should i Buy this motor???Help Please

i found this motor from a guy who took it out of a 9c1 caprice its the LT-1 police motor....heres the email he sent me about it "here is a lot of extras that go with engine, I have been accumulating a good number of parts to do a 383 conversion. I have a set of new ac delco platinum plugs , a new water pump, a new alternator some gaskets etc. all goes with the motor if the price is right. I have an engine crane that will enable us to lift the engine into your truck. The engine comes on its custom stand so it can be transported without wood blocks to support/level it. I also have a spare set of fuel injectors for it and they cost $ 88.00 each at NAPA where I work. The injectors are used but work. So do the math. $450.00 is cheap ,....I f someone wants to beat up on me over the price, the extras don't go with it. As a core the long block (short block and heads) is worth the $ 450.00. The ball is in your court friend.".....heres a pic of it please tell me what u think if its worth it or not...he siad its fairly complete heres the pic...thanks in advance...

Be advised... cops beat on their cars (because they don't own them). Also, police cars typically have high mileage before they are sold.

I'm not trying to deter you, I'm just letting you know!

meh, they get rid of em around 140k or less. which is no biggie.
make sure its a 350, and re-ring/bearing it.

I think it's a GREAT starting point!!

Running an LT1 type powerplant is great! It's a nice upgrade for a TPI 305 for sure. Worst case scenario, you have a late-style 350 to rebuild and use for your project. The LT1 stuff you could sell here. What are you replacing?

Re: Should i Buy this motor???Help Please

yeah if you are going to keep it then i would probably have the heads gone through real quick, new spring and seals atleast

and put new rings in it and have the crank checked and machined if necessarry for new bearings and make sure the pistons pins are all good, if not then replace them

and then put the engine in the car

be a nice lil motor for sure

not a bad find imho

for what it is and the price i dont think you hurt yourself

evne if you need to lightly rebuild it in which i would do regardless, for peaceof mind and so forth especially

good luck

Re: Should i Buy this motor???Help Please

Your main issue with swapping a 350 in to replace your TPI 305 is the computer tuning. You can get that done with help from this site but it requires patience and lots of time.

Your biggest factor in going from BIG carb to TPI would be the camshaft, in my opinion. A big cam isn't computer friendly until you custom tune it. You can get by with a stock computer and some increased fuel pressure if you run a computer friendly cam like the LT4 Hot Cam or even an LT1 Cam.

Reuse all of your 305 accessories and that will make things go more smoothly.

Hope this helps.
