Got an LT1; need help with accessory brackets
as it says I bought an LT1, its a 95 from a Caprice with the iron heads. Anyway I dont know much of anything about these engines, and since the engine didnt come with any accessory brackets or accessories, I have no idea what to buy or where to buy it. I know there were different setups depending on car models, so what brackets should I get? Can I use the brackets from any LT1 setup. I know the A/C pump hits the crossmember with the f-body setup, but is the Corvette setup easily used. I heard the A/C is at top driver side on corvettes, so could I just buy a vette brackets and use it on Caprice iron heads? How about alternator? the A/C and alt are a necessity. I want my A/C back, person who had car last removed it. Someone on another forum said that only 1 bracket is used for accessories, so is that the case?

F-body bracket is the same as the Caprice/Impala bracket. Corvette brackets are expensive and the accessories are as well, depends on what you want to spend. As far as the compressor hitting the k-member, a BFH works great on it and a few of us are working on getting the a/c working again but I haven't had the time to work on mine this summer

Re: Got an LT1; need help with accessory brackets
I did a search on ebay last night and got about 6 or 7 hits, and looking at the brackets on there, I noticed that some looked different from others, not just different as fbody/caprice and corvette, but also variations within the fbody ones. It may be me just being stupid but I could swear there were at least 2 different variations of the bracket for fbodies.
What is a fair price for the bracket? On ebay they were listed anywhere from $20 and 30 bucks all the way up to over $100 for claimed to be new brackets.
Also are the idlers supposed to come with the bracket or is that something that is bought seperate? I only ask because I also noticed some had idler pulley's and some didnt.

would it be possible to use BOTH the fbody and the corvette bracket, and cut the corvette bracket so its only used for the a/c compressor. That way the accessories would be bolted on in the traditional way of both sides, and the only corvette part would be the compressor, which I would hope to find in a salvage yard or used on ebay or something. I really like the thought of the a/c being up top where I can easily get to it. Makes things much simpler.

No, because of the way the belt would route. Basically the Corvette has all the accessories on the driver side, F-body/B-body have them on the passenger side. Plus the corvette a/c compressor is like double price of an f-body one.
