Re: How Long?

It's just like any other engine, how it was driven, oil change and routine maint done on it. I'm buying a '98 T/A this weekend that has 142k on it, still runs like a top, no smoke, no piston slap very solid motor. Buddy of mine traded his '99 Sierra in with the 5.3 (granted it's an iron block) with 188k miles on it.

Re: How Long?

Well Im just trying to get a general concensus from the users in this forum of how long theres have lasted? Thanx for your input though dude. It is appreciated. I personally havent known any American Manufactured Motors to last all too long. V-8's that is.

Re: How Long?

Well id call most small blocks chevys very reliable, its the car around them that may not always be as reliable. I have yet to read of any high mileage ls1 failures, unless it had a hole blown in the top of the piston from nitrious...but ive heard of the tranny and the rears going long before the motor ever does.

My gf's RS we sold awhile back had over 210k miles on the odometer and it ran like a champ...my car has 133k on it though im pulling the motor just because i want to it still ran like a champ and i beat on it everytime i got behind the wheel.

Re: How Long?

i have 2 daily drivers . both 89s one an 89rs , and the other a dodge p/u truck . changed oil and lubed [ myself ] . both at 150k , both still strong , take care of them and they will take care of you . buying a used car/engine unless you know it , is like buying a used condom . you never really know the mileage or abuse it has seen . just my thoughts , but a maintained car/engine will last a long time . 400k is not unheard of .
