i dont know where to turn. im doing a engine swap on my 63"truck, im putting a 350 tpi engine of a 88' camaro irocz.my problem is that i dont have the ignition or the key and alot of people told me that i need that to start the engine due to the fact that the key has a chip.is there any way to bypass it?
i tryed to start the engine and it wouldnt start.the engine was running before i pulled it out of the camaro.

 

Yes you can bypass it, it the vats system that needs to be turned off.
You can get a new chip burnt w a performance tune and no vats, or buy the bypass module from painless wiring. I would burn a new chip for the performance (about $100) or the modual for 60 or so.

what is the vats?
do you mean take it to a shop an get the ecm program to turn off the vats?
if i burn a chip does that mean i could use switch to turn on the motor or do i still need the ignition & key?


im running the stock harness.

 

vats is (Vehical Anti Theft System) on gm vehicals
if the vats is turned off in the prom there is no need for a special key any swich (key) will work. There is nothing you can take to a shop to turn off its just the prom (chip) in the ecm.
