chevy 350 or 400 with tranny probs.

hey guys im new here and i juss got a 85 camaro with a 305 in it. originally there was a 2.8L V6 in it with the 5 speed tranny, now theres a 305, but my question is i wana drop a 350 or 400 in it and i know the tranny will not hold up at all. What 5 speed tranny will work with either of those engines, i dont wana drop it in and blow the tranny to see if it works.. thanx guys alott!

Well....

Most guys (including me) don't go for the stock T5 behind a V8. I destroy them. I can use V8 T5s behind V6 engines and they do fine. V6 transmissions aren't good for anything. Not even parts.

Serious guys use T56 transmissions from 4th gens or TKO 5 speeds. I have also seen a guy here using a Tremec 3550.
