turbo v6 +t56 or 454 +t56??
IS there any transmission like the t56 that will bolt up behind a 3.8 turbo? I dont want a auto car.....if i cant get a strong v6 trans....it may force me to go bbc.......
now......454 is externally balanced.....so i just run a 400 sbc externally balanced flywheel then? Im new at the t56 and want a 3rd gen with one....
Thanks all, Shelby

So you definately want the T56 6speed transmission? Wouldnt even settle for a 5spd? If this is the case, i dont think you could simply bolt a 400sbc flywheel to the engine and call it done, you would have to get it balanced.
The 3.8 turbo has a BOP bell housing, and the T56 usually have the chevy belhousing, but you could probably get a adapter plate.
Personally i thinlk the 454 would be cooler, but if you want to drive everyday, the 3.8 is probably more economical.
Look at the TKO transmissions, im sure they have kits for BBCs.

Go with the turbo V6/6spd. That would be a different combo and you wouldn't see it around. It might not be a great drag setup at the track but it would ROCK on the street!
I want to do this if I get another 4th gen.

You are simply an adapter away from bolting the transmission to the engine. Beyond that, you will most likely need a custom flywheel made to run the T56 clutch. You can get that done but it does cost extra dough.
I am going the 5 speed route. As long as I have overdrive for the highway and a clutch pedal, I'm good. One overdrive is plenty for me!

I think you may be a little confused; I know I am now...
A 3.8 from a grand national or turbo trans am or any rear drive car is a Buick engine. There was a chevy 3.8 made for a few years but it is not common. All of the turbo 3.8 guys here are using rear wheel drive Buick stuff.
You only need one special bellhousing from Lakewood or McLeod. It bolts to all GM rear drive engines and has the 17 degree bolt pattern for our cars stock T5. From there, you can use a TKO trans and you're done.

Re: turbo v6 +t56 or 454 +t56??
The 400 and 454 are both externally balanced but use different flywheels and flexplates.
You can build a 454 with an aftermarket internally balanced crank. My 540 is internally balanced. You then use a 396/427 harmonic balancer and a neutrally balanced flywheel or flexplate.
Now here's where it becomes tricky. The T56 uses a special flywheel designed for a one piece rear main engine. Getting special swap parts or modified parts takes a bit of experience to know exactly what to get.
You can do any swap combination you want with enough time and money. Some swaps are just a lot easier and cheaper than others.

Lots of guys on this site have done that swap. Not many with a clutch pedal that I know of...
Anyway, like I said above, you need one conversion bellhousing to put a 5 speed behind a Buick V6. Searching out the rest will show you the motor mount combo you need.
