On a pad that is part of the passenger side head mating surface, at the front of the engine. Only the last characters of the VIN is stamped there - not the complete vehicle #.

Stamped in the pad in front of the passenger side head will be a series of numbers. The numbers are usually hard to read if they're full of dirt, paint etc. If the block has ever been decked, the numbers will have been machined off.
The number sequence will include an 8 digit series of numbers and letters. This can tell you exactly what the engine came from and when and where it was made.
The last 9 digits of the original car's VIN number will also be stamped there.
Tell us all these numbers.
