so i know there is a big debate beteen the whole 305 and 350 thing, but i was thinking what if i went 327? im sure there are a few people who have done it, is it better than a 350? i know the more discplacement the better but everyone has a 350, how many people can honestly say they have a 327 under the hood, just thought i would throw it out there and see what everyone had to say about it...

This has been discussed many times. A 327 generally means that you will be faster than a 305 and slower than a 350 with similar setups on each engine.
There is a good reason that Chevy phased out the 327 for the 350...

Think of a 327 as a 350 with ¼" of its stroke taken out.
Think of a 383 as a 350 with ¼" of extra stroke added.
Which will go faster?
Which one do people generally do, as an upgrade?
Could there be a reason?
What do you think will happen to YOU if you perform this downgrade? Are you different from everybody else in the world?

The main key point to sofa's advice there - You can't turn a 305 into a 327. You can turn a 350 into either a 327 or 383, with basically the same dollars (you have to buy a new crank). There's your answer - why pay to DOWNGRADE when you can pay the SAME TO UPGRADE ?
You can however turn a 305 into a 335, but that's kinda the worst of both worlds (not a great idea).

I am a big fan of the "no replacement for displacement," theory.
Go for it, use a 400 2 bolt block with splayed main caps for the center 3.
