Engine not firing

Got a problem with my '90 RS. Trying to start it but it is not firing up. I got spark fuel and compession but Im thinking something with the timing is screwed up. When I crank it fuel sprays out of the top of the carb and I dont hear any of the cylinders fire. Does this sound like a timing problem? So far ive been having this problem for awhile and cant figure it out. Engine hasnt ran since it was swaped yet

Re: Engine not firing

Im gonna recheck that I have spark and make sure im not 180 deg out again to make sure. because Im prettu confident that its a timing problem. Is there another way to find TDC that isnt the pulling the sparkplug and putting your finge rover the ole method? Preferably an easier more accurate method. Thanks

Re: Engine not firing

when i lost it i just pulled the valve cover and tapped the starter until cyl 1 was on compression stroke, and looked at the timing mark then dropped the dist in rotor pointing towards the #1 cyl then readjusted to get it perfect

Re: Engine not firing

If you're not 180 deg. out of time, and ALL of your accessories and intake manifold garbage is hooked up, you need to check your ignition timing. Drop the distributor in, and look at where the rotor is pointing. It should be pointing towards the #1 cylinder, or somewhere near there. Next, take the spark plug wire for the #1 cylinder, and put it on the distributor, in the spot that is closest to the rotor. After the cap is tightened up, turn the distributor just a little counter clockwise, so the spark plug wire is a little to the right of where the rotor is, or so you think. Put the rest of the wires on, and fire it up.

If that doesn't work, get a timing light.
