I'm swapping out a 305 for a 383 but I don't know where to get a computer to be able to run with the 383. Anybody know where I can get a computer made.

your computer doesn't discriminate against cubic inches, it will just just think you still have the good ole 305. you will have to adjust for fuel and what not, but the stock computer will allow it to run. imo, as well as many others, you are much better off slapping on a carb.

First, welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Second, it would be helpful to have a little more information about your car. "305" doesn't tell us anything - there were at least 7 different 305 configurations in 3rd gens, some are more able to handle a 383 than others.

Guessing from your username, this is a 1990 model, correct? Playing the odds, it's an RS with LO3 TBI, right? If that's the case, you have the computer, but you will need to change things in order for the computer to run the 383 properly - it certainly will care about the displacement change, and won't run worth a hoot unless you give it what it wants. What it wants is documented on the TBI forum.

If it's a TPI engine, you've got some serious work and expense ahead of you to get it to handle a 383. It also really, really cares about the displacement change.

exatly what i was thinking haha,

im planning on doing a 305 - 383 swap to my car.
im just in the process of doin the interior of my car and building the engine.
im going carb because i hate playing around with the computer stuff. to complicated for me. im more of a mechanical type of guy.

best of luck with your 383 swap youll have alot more fun driving with that engine then the 305

Little details like that are kind of important.

If it's an '86 and EFI, then it's TPI. Not a good start for a 383, as basically all of the hardware will have to change to support the 383.

The computer will probably handle it, although the '90-'92 computer would be better at it.

i have a 1990 ECM if you would like to buy it. someone wanted to buy it but i havnt heard of anything yet from him.

its from a 1990 RS TBI engine. im not to sure if that will work for a TPI or not.

No, it won't work on TPI. The harness is also different between MAF ('85-'89) and SD ('90-'92) TPI.
