1992 Engine Swap

I have just purchased a 1992 RS with the TBI injected E motor. The engine is junk. I would like to install a beefy sbc with NO electrionics and a vacuum HEI ignition. Does anyone know if there is a replacment engine harness or a way to doo this and use all my factory equipment and gauges? The wiring harness has been cut into to install a viper Security system which MUST GO. I want a very clean wiring look that does not apear to have wires left unhooked or have a hacked look.

Welcome to the thirdgen.org family.

If you go to the thirdgen.org home page, there are links on the left margin, one for "Tech Articles". Within the list of tech articles is one about converting from EFI to carb - it includes almost all of the information you need.

Basically, the computer harness and what you'd need to run without a computer are easily separated. With minor rewiring, you can run your old-school carb set-up.

Re: 1992 Engine Swap

You can cut up the stock harness and remove all of the injection wiring, the TBI cars are ideal for the carb swappers because it uses the buffer box seperate from the computer for the speedometer, so you can easily do away with the computer without losing any functionality.

If you want to be able to remove the TBI setup and sell it complete with the harness, I can also build you a new harness with only the wiring you need, wouldnt be very expensive and you would probably come out ahead after selling the TBI setup complete.

Also, if you go to www.photobucket.com

Type in my TGO username (sorry i'd direct link you but the boards word filter will mess up the link due to my username)

It should ask if you want to view my album. In there you will find the 1992 wiring pinouts for the C100 and C207, some of them are a bit vague, and if you need further help understanding what each go to you can PM me as i've got a bit more detail on the circuits in my hardcopy wiring folder.

You shouldn't have to cut any of the EFI part of the harness.

Plugs are going to be different for the distributor power, gonna have to cut it there to change over to a connector to feed the HEI non comp distributor, which is probably going to be internal coil, so cut off the connectors to the TBI engines coil, changeover to connectors for the HEI. Of course most people trying to do a swap over to a "simple" carb dont typically want wiring for the tbi's injection body, esc module, etc all over the place, so most typically do a lot of cutting to remove it from the harness.
