Engine Swap electrical
Engine Swap electrical
Hey guys! Just picked up a 1989 Firebird SSA (Still tryin to find info on it above and beyond TA Dressing on a Firebird...), and, well, the motor is shot. not a big deal as I am building a new one for it anyways. I havent started pulling the car apart yet, but I have been checking out the build/swap threads as best I can. Overall, my goal is to shove a 377 into it and rig up a halfway descent fuel injection (sorry, did carbs once, would like to skip that option for the future) driven by a FIRST intake and a Megasquirt II computer. needless to say, I think I am golden on the motor. Please dont try to shoot down my motor choice as I am growing kind of fond to it, and I already have a forged bottom end and some brodix heads waitin to get slapped onto it.
Enough mindless chit-chat and onto the big questions.
1. Is the factory dash computer controlled, and if so would it be easier just to chop it out and dress it up with a good set of aftermarket gauges?
2. Might be better for the megasquirt guys but... I am looking at going with a fully computer controlled timing, so would it be better to
a. hack an MSD 8366 into the mix...
b. go with a Ford (shudder) EDIS, and if so, how would I plug the dist hole and spin my oil pump? A friend had an idea of getting a junk dist, yank the cap and rotor off and glue a skull to the shaft, lol. I chose the EDIS b/c it is the easiest to adapt to just about any application with the Megasquirt w/o spending $2k in extra junk. unless someone has an inexpensive alternative idea?
Thanks in advance for your help!
