big hp suggestions
i want to build a big hp motor for the street and strip. i want it to be a good streetable motor thats not going to give me any problems while driving on the street but when i want to let it all hang out it will. on the strip i want to run at least 11s (slowest) or 10s N/A but also add a little nitrous to it to push it into the low 10s or high 9s (at least if not faster) any suggestions on what parts to use, suggestions on setups, or anything would be very helpful.

Re: big hp suggestions
Thats asking ALOT for a NA street/strip motor with decent manners. The only realistic way to do all that is to build a stroker LSx motor... like a 402 or 408 from a 6.0L block, and use a massive cam and some really top notch heads. Theres no way you will realistically be able to pull it off with a dinosaur like a Gen I small block or big block unless foced induction or nitrous are used. A stroker LTx engine might be able to do it, but the LSx is the only realistic way to build something that fast and keep it relatively streetable. Either way, its going to take alot of planning and a healthy wallet.

big block
600-700hp on motor will get you 10's easily on motor. spray to 800 will touch 9's easily if setup right
Need a stout trans like a th350/400 thats build. 12bolt or 9inch rear would be required
Fuel system to handle the fuel load. Probly 10an supply/return
Else LSx swap would do 11's or 10's n/a on motor if setup right in a 3400-3500 lb car.
you need around 450whp to get into the mid high 10's with 3400-3500 lb car
450 is streetable by all means in a 408 stroker. 500 is doable in some cases. I've seen the builds. that will be a stout n/a motor. Spray a 150 and your DEEP 10's possible 9's IF the rest of the car is set to handle that.
you'll need a full cage for 135+mph trap speeds you will have

Start with upgrading the transmission and differential. What that's done, look at getting a more powerful engine.

TGO member baddest305 (I think it is) had his SC'd 305 in the 10's. Got one of Shafiroff's 434's (forget which one exactly) and is in the 9's NA.

A decient running SBC will get you mid 11's all day long and still be very streetable in N/A form. I would start with a 406 or bigger, a good set of heads (275 CFM or better), 11.0 CR, mini ram or ported superram, a HR cam with 235 or slightly larger intake duration, headers and typical bolt on's.
My 406 vette run's low 11's with this combination and when it was still a 355 and a superam it ran high 11's. On the highway both combinations get over 20 MPG, these are good streetable combinations.
1986 Coupe, auto, 3.45 gears, 1973 406, 11.5 to 1 compression, SLP cold air, gutted MAS, 58 MM throttle body, ported plenium, LT1 intake, 23 degree Trick Flow Heads, ZZX cam, TPIS headers, TCI 3000 stall, 3" duel exhaust, Cheap and easy free mods, custom chip, daily driver
RWHP 427 @ 6500 RWTQ 436 FTLBS @ 2800
Best run
60 ft = 1.536
1/8 = 7.116 @ 95.874
1/4 = 11.185 @ 121.04
