87 350 engine queston

i just picked up a 350 4 bolt main engine. wheni ran the numbers on the block i found out that it came from a 87 camaro. now my questio is about the cam .after inspecting the block and cam i noticed that it has non roller lifters in it but has the roller lift hold down plate holes in the center . now is it possible to run regular hydralic lifters in the motor ? cause if im correct in 87the 350 offered came with a roller camshaft. need some light shed on this

Yes, both styles of lifters can be used in those blocks. It appears the cam has been changed at some point, and they changed it to a flat tappet cam for some reason. If the towers in the lifter valley are machined and tapped, the roller stuff will fit right in.

Trucks used the same blocks as passenger cars, but didn't have roller lifters. Some of the blocks weren't even finished machined for the roller provisions, but many were.

But, if you're sure it came out of a Camaro, it should have had roller lifters. Make sure the pushrods are the proper length - roller lifter pushrods are shorter than flat tappet pushrods.
