TPI unit question please help
TPI unit question please help
I have a 305 TPI motor in my car. If I were to buy a 350 TPI motor that is missing the entire TPI system, what would I have to do to get the 350 to run correctly if I put the TPI unit on it from my 305?

Yours is an '86, correct?
Factory 350 TPI engines didn't come out until 1987, at which time the center two intake mount bolts on each side were changed to 72 degrees (vs. all at 90 degrees '86-earlier).
Other than that, 350 injectors (22 lb), 350 knock sensor & module.
If you find an '87-'88 L98 PROM, that would help a little, but wouldn't be absolutely necessary.

Just picked up a bored and stroked 350 to replace my 305 in my 91. The guy who I bought it from said he had a buddy that had a problem putting TPI on another engine becasue of the two center bolt holes on the head. Supposedly my engine is an 87 and later engine it has a one piece rear main seal.
How can I tell for sure without pulling my intake off of the 305 to make sure it will bolt up to the 350? Can I use casting numbers on the heads to see if they are 87 and later? Or is there any modification to make the intake work with the earlier heads if that is what I do have?

Casting # would work. Or, just go look at them - it's pretty obvious.

Options:
1)Junkyard/bone yard for a complete donor vehicle
2) Summit or Jegs sell Edelbrock and other manufactuer TPI style intakes and complete systems to retrofit to older non-TPI small block chevys pre TPI (older-87) and for 87 and later heads too
