Short water pump pulley

Search didn't answer my question, and I can't be the first to run into this so..... I swapped in a serpentine belt system from a GM vehicle on my SBC and wanted to go to an electric fan. The snout on the water pump hits the electric cooling fan. A short water pump (90 Corvette) gives me 3/4" clearance but I need a pulley to allow the belt to run close to the end of the pump for allignment. I don't want to swap everything over to the Corvette brackets and pulleys due to cost. I cant be the first one to run into clearance problems with a water pump so please help. The best I can do right now is to modify a Ford 4.6 pulley to fit the Corvette pump.

Re: Short water pump pulley

ah, so you have a 1990 Corvette, and not a 3rd gen Camaro at all eh?
Why not go ask on a Corvette forum then? anethesis probably knows a good one.
Short pumps are rare, I don't think you'll find anyone here using one. I'm using a long water pump, and an electric fan, and in my CAMARO it fits fine.
Using a short water pump (I assume) would mean you need the rest of the bracketry to match up. Truck brackets might work, or other parts from the '60s.
Good luck though, I don't *think* what you're doing is that common (on this forum at least, hence why I suggested a 'vette forum).

Uh, I believe he was only talking about the water pump with regard to Vettes.

Re: Short water pump pulley

You caught me, it's a serpentine install on a 400 sbc with truck brackets and electric fan in a Jeep. I am also doing a 454 TBI at the same time and found alot of good info on this board so I thought I'd see if anyone had used a Corvette short pump here and ran into the same problem.
Short version is: no such pulley exists in unmodified form for what I am doing. Most people who run a short pump, also run all of the short brackets and accessories. I called ASP Racing down in Texas and he is machining a steel pulley to my demensions, he has done this in the past for people with my problem.

Re: Short water pump pulley

Late '60s and early '70s pickup trucks used the short pump as well, if I remember correctly. Maybe that will help you find what you need??

Re: Short water pump pulley

Nope, 60's and 70's wont work because the whole point of doing the upgrade is to get the serpentine belt system. Thanks anyway.
