350 swap opinions
ok i started to look into what to get when i swap my 305 out for a 350 im just tryin to get an idea on how hard this will be and about how much it will cost me.
first ill start with what i want the car to do.im lookin to make 300-350 hp maybe a little less. i want it to be able to smoke eny ***** i meet. and be a daily driver(but not worryed about gas prices aslong as i get over 10 mpg im fine) but i still want to be able to have some fun at the track
so i got a couple of crate engines iv been lookin at but what i really cant figure out is what i want to do with the fuel system i dont know if i should stick with the tbi or swap to tpi i know that tpi would be better but i dont know how hard it would be to swap and how much more it would cost.and yes i know that the tbi i have wouldnt be able to handle the power i want so im kinda stuck there
so enyway there r 2 crate engines iv been lookin at but not sure witch would be better
im kinda liking this 350HO Engine but im not sure if its worth the money
http://www.sdparts.com/catalog/crate...0HOEngine.aspx
an then theres this 350 that is cheaper but has less power
http://www.sdparts.com/catalog/crate...omyEngine.aspx
so thats where im at so let me know what u guys think i should do has far as witch engine to get and what fuel injection system i should go with and also how hard would all of this be to do for somone who hasnt had much experience with eny of this? and about how much do u think the full swap would cost?
sorry for all the qestions lol

#1 - Exhaust. You've got to get headers and eliminate the soda-straw sized 2-1/4" y-pipe, cat, and I-pipe (if you haven't already).
Now, which engine? The 290 HP engine is old-school 2-piece rear main seal, flat tappet lifters, etc. The heads are terrible, compression low. Fine for a truck pulling your car, not so great for your car. Okay, but to improve it would require more money than you should have to spend. If you're happy with 290 HP (and that's at the crank, gross, not net like cars are rated), you'll have to modify your TBI intake to get it to fit, but other than that, it will be better than your 305.
The 330 HP HO is a pretty popular engine. It is one-piece rear main seal, but still flat tappet. It has Vortec heads, so whether you go TBI, TPI, or carb, you'll need a Vortec-specific intake manifold. TBI would work fine on it, just read the "budget 350" sticky on the TBI forum.
All right, how about TBI vs. TPI? Personally, I'm an "improve what you've got" kind of guy, and for your stated goals, TBI would get the job done. TPI might have a little more torque, and get slightly better mileage, but only at a pretty substantial cost. You can buy a lot of gas for what the swap to TPI would cost you, and if you're smart about your modifications, the TBI will provide the power you're after.
Another possibility: get a rebuilt L98. http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...31108487427.a8 Roller lifters, one-piece rear main seal, your intake will mount to it, etc. Pretty much what my brother did for his TBI pickup. You can talk to them about a cam upgrade if you like.

Transmission, no problem.
Fuel pump - check the TBI forum, but I seem to recall the stock pump being somewhat limited as to the power it will support. A TPI pump would be fine, though.

Re: 350 swap opinions
so fiveseven kid, ive got the same problem 90 rs with 305 tbi,
if i wanted to go with that 330 HO, and the GM TBI vortec intake would that work, i would also go with a bigger throttle body unit like the holley 670. But some jegs tech guy said that, that motor is only made for a carb, and even with a tbi vortec intake manifold, it would not run right. is this true?
