305 tbi swap to 350
ok i need help i just got done putting a complete exhaust on my 1990 RS from headers back to a magnaflow 3 in exhaust. while it woke it up a bit, i still need more power, so im figuring swapping out my 170 hp for a 350 of at least 300 HP.
maybe you guys can help me i want to buy a new crate engine, but will be having my mechanic do the swap. The other dilemma is the fuel system, should i keep the throttle body, is that even possible with most of theese crate 350s having carbs, or should i switch to carb. Any one who has made this swap before and can give me some tips, I would really appreciate it.
id like to keep it between 4 and 5 grand for everything motor, parts, paying someone to pull it out and put it in.
i wouldnt even consider it but i bought the car from the original owner and it is in mint condition, in and out.
so anyone got any ideas?

Check out the "budget 350" sticky in the top section of the TBI forum.
If it absolutely has to be crate, start with the GMPP 330 HP HO crate and do the "budget" stuff to it.

Re: 305 tbi swap to 350
"Budget" is relative. I have the 350 Vortec, nice, vortec heads need vortec intake. High-rise intake or "air-gap" raises filter= cowl induction hood. Headers and 330 or so horses mean hotter under hood temps= switch single fan to duals, et cet. In-tank fuel pump is too much for a carb at 15psi as carbs only take around 6 or so. Make your plans carefully.

I'd stick with EFI if possible. Many advantages, few disadvantages.
If you go carb, it's simple enough to install a by-pass regulator to drop the in-tank electric pump pressure down to carb levels.
