need help wiring up motor from tbi to old style 350
i need help wiring the starter, alternator, and fuel pump. i think i understand the fuel pump for the most part. i need to do something with the VATS tho. i need to figure out what wires go to the alternator, and starter. and what wires i can get rid of, the computer is out, and i dont want to cut anything in the harness. and i have a wire mess hanging outthe side of the car. any help on grounds, and connections would be greatly appreaciated..
ill need to know wire colors, and where they go to and from. please help. my haynes manual is useless, haha
the alternator has the 2 prong on top with the bolt in the rear. do i change the connector?

Use the same wires to the starter and alternator that used to go to them.

The ac and sensors will hook up too, along with the entire serpentine system. The easiest way to handle the tranny and cooling fans are painless wiring kits. Grounds all stay the same. The fuel pump there is a little confusion on.... some people just run a regulator to drop pressure. Others like myself took out the pump in favor of a pick-up, and ran a seperate pump.

i got the regulator hooked up. im keeping my in tank pump... but....in the ALDL connection, you can hook up a 12v source to it for the pump correct? can i run that to a switch through the ALDL? or is that not a good idea?
and the wires for the starter and alternator,,, im afraid i got a little ahead of myself and i cant quite remember what goes where. the ac along with the blower motor is gone, i dont want it, i dont need it. so i removed it. and you say i can use my alternator? will it bolt up to the old style bracket?im only using 1 belt, and its on the alt. water pump and crank pulley.im not even sure if im goin to hook up my power steering pump yet... but the motor is around a 79 4 bolt main. the heads are between 79-82 60 cc. i didnt figure my serp. setup would work. but i havnt tried.
mainly what i need is to know what color and what the wires look like that go to the starter. ill try the origonal alternator and see where that gets me. but as far as the rest of the wires, im tryin to figure out how to disconnect what i dont need without having to cut anything... and what are the 2 relay type of things above he master cylinder? isnt 1 for the fuel pump?

Someone on here will know for sure if the serpentine will fit. To see if it will fit, just look at the front of the heads, and see if the bolt holes are in the same position. I know it does with the vortec heads. With a v-belt setup the water pump will have to be replaced with a standard rotation pump, and the alternator will need a pulley change, or be replaced.
The relays above the master cylinder are for the fuel pump and cooling fan. I think it would be better to wire the fuel pump through that, rather then the ALDL. Besides, if you did that it would mean wires right by your legs when driving.
I don't have access to manuals since I'm sitting in Iraq right now, but the wiring should be kind of obvious for the starter and alternator..... just look for the connections and length.
On a side note.... don't forget the ground on the back of the engine. (I spent a while getting my speedo working cause of that)
