a 318 as in a dodge engine? Yeah go with a 305 or 350. Preferably the 350.

You looking brand new or used? If you want to save on the shipping when it crosses the border try going right to a GM Dealer. They have anything from just the core right up to turn key.
Used, I'd look up nearby salvage yards and see what they offer - they may work with a shop that rebuilds and may be able to put it in for you unless you want to do it. Then you can just have it delivered to you place.
Last resort is online, at various websites that offer all kinds of motors that are new and rebuilt. I was going to go with Pace Performance because they were the closest to the border and pick it up myself but the GM dealer near me got me a better motor for about $200 more (was going to get the ZZ4 turnkey but got a 385 Fast Burn).
Here's a few places I was looking (cause I'm in Ontario as well):
http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Pa...l.jsp?engine=0
http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...S&Category=130
http://search.ebay.ca/search/search....ors&category0=
and a lot of good advice in the thread I started on the same topic about a year ago:

Have some fun reading all the swaps done in the Engine Swap section of the board - there is a ton of info and researching is a fun part of the swap process. I used the eBay auctions to find companies that rebuilt motors and then went to their website directly to see what else they offered. With you being so close to the border I'd see if there was a UPS store or something like that to ship to and then go get it yourself.
