swap ideas/help?
I'm getting a 90 trans am gta with a 305 tpi/auto. I dont plan on keeping the 305 very long. I think what i'm gonna do is buy a 350 tpi from a local junk yard, rebuild it, and ditch the stock tpi top end for an aftermarket one like the bbk or edelbrok or something, Then drop it into the car.
My question is, what all am i going to have to go through to put it in? Can i use the same wiring harness and computer from the 305 and get a chip made for it, or do i have to use the 350 harness and computer? Would i have to have a chip made for that too because of the top end?
Any thoughts and or help would be very much appreciated. I would like to know what all im getting my self into before i start tearing into the car.

Yes, the harness and ECM (computer) will swap over. So will everything else except for knock sensor and injectors. You will have to get a knock sensor for a 350 and 19# or higher injectors. And, yes, even if you don't swap the intake you will need a different chip. If you find a junk car with a 350 TPI, pull the chip out of it if you decide to keep the stock intake. But keep in mind that the chip for MAF cars and MAP cars are very different and won't interchange. I don't know what your car is. Is '90 MAP? Can't remember when the switch took place. Anyway, I would recommend a custom chip so you can build the motor exactly as you want it and then program the chip (or have it done) to work with your setup.

Stock 305 injectors are 19 lb, stock 350 injectors are 22 lb.
1990 was the first year for speed density/MAP.
Holley Stealth Ram is the best bang/buck TPI top end mod.

Re: swap ideas/help?
thanks guys. The car that id be pulling the 350 from is still complete. Would i be better off taking the entire motor, harness, and ecm, or would it be better to just take the motor minus the plenum runners and base and just buy the holley mpfi stealth ram since it comes with its own ecm and harness?

or just get the motor (minus the plenum runners and base), ecm, harness, and get the stealth ram manifold and new injectors. BTW both cars have map

The base/runners/plenum/harnessing/fuel lines would be identical between the two engines. The injectors and PROM are different. I'm not sure about the fuel pressure regulator and knock sensor (and torque converter), I've heard both ways.

Re: swap ideas/help?
i have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator that i never had a chance to put on my 88 so no worries there. I might need the torque converter out of the 350 car too?? I'm not sure if i wanna just put the stealth ram on the motor, or if i just wanna do the whole holley mpfi stealth ram system. Its either I buy everything from the 350 car and just put a stealth ram on it, or buy just the motor minus the entire tpi setup and spend all the money on the mpfi system which comes with everything (harness, ecm, fuel rails, injectors, tb, software, etc.)

then theres been this idea floating around in the back of my head...
