New to the t-5
New to the t-5
My first car was a 1982 Camaro with a 305 and metric 200 trans.
I regreted ever selling it but I have since found one that is the same color and brought back that warm cozy feeling.
It is a 1988 V6 with a 5 speed.
The body is perfect as is the interior.
The engine however sounds like a galloping horse (UP FRONT!).
Its alright though as I only paid $200.00 for it.
I am going to put a sbc up front but I would like to keep the t-5. I know there are several threads about swapping in a v8 and mating it with a t-5 but my question is different.
I have never worked on or had any dealings with a manual transmission.
I have rebuilt TH-350's with no problem.
My question is, what flywheel, clutch, flexplate etc. to use. I see several for sale but they are mostly for racing apps.
I just want a toy to drive around town.
I already have a v8 bellhousing but I really don't know what other parts to buy. I admit ignorance - I'M NOT ASHAMED!
Any advised will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: New to the t-5
Welcome to TGO. The V6 T5 won't mate with the V8 version. Different spline count, IIRC. I'd suggest attempting to locate the WC version, 88-92, which is a bit stronger than the earlier models.

You can, but it will either be something that doesn't fit exactly (like a 10" disc with 10-1/2" clutch), or something custom made.
That's a lot of hassle for something that is very weak to start with (fewer splines means smaller shaft which means weaker).
Want a manual transmission with SBC V8, go for a T56 for the f-body LT1.
