1984 BBc Swap

Dont no if any one cares but I have to tell someone, I just finished my BBC swap into my 1984 Z28. If anyone is interested I can post some pics later this week. I must say it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, there is alot more room under the hood of these cars than it looks. Thanks to reading some of the other posts on this site I knew what to look out for, after this swap its BIG BLOCKS FOR LIFE, this car is nasty!!!! Thanks for reading.

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

I would love to see some pics. I want a big block bad but i just put a brand new 383 450 hp motor in. Would you rather have the same hp with a sbc or a bbc? Oh and are you really gonna leave the t-5 in? im about to get a tko box 4 mine.

I just put a gen 6 454 in my 89 iroc. All that is left to do is plumbing and wiring. Would like to see some pics of yours.

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

Well im going to leave the t-5 in for now till I get the money for a richmond 5-speed. I will get some pics this week loaded on here would love to here some feedback on how I did. How is the best way to load pics on here? cant remember how. thanks

I would rather have the same horse power in a BBC due to the fact youll probablu have close to twice the amount of torque with a big block. and thats what you feel in the seat of your pants. and it makes it alot more fun on the street!

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

right on, post up some pics and info!

I have read the sticky about doing a BB swap but thats was over 4 years old, has much really changed in that time regarding parts availability andor better ways to do it

My buddy is selling a fresh built and blueprinted 454 out of his 69 camaro (yenko tribute) for a 427 to make it a little more authentic. i can pick it up for next to nothing....

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

I'm not the one your asking, but if you can get the engine reasonably,I wholeheartedly say do it!It was the best setup I ever had in my Iroc. The Hookers do fit pretty shitty, but they do fit,and aren't QUITE as bad as people say.Cooling was no harder than a 406,I could tell VERY little difference in handling, although I'm sure a Pro Touring or similar type of car would be different.I made very similar HP to a very radical 406,but in a MUCH more drivable car.

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

The guy is serious about dumping this 454 to replace with a more 'authentic' 427. He said $500 granted i drop it in my car and put it on the road next summer. Hes kind of pissed off i never got the time or ambition to get my car on the road this year so he didnt have anyone to rip around with!

So, for $500 a guy cant go wrong. The engine hasnt even been broke in yet and i know for a fact it hasnt been bagged on, the car scares the crap out of him! haha

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

Sounds like a good deal to me, if you can get a bbc for less than a 1000 bucks and its not a boat anchor, I would buy it in a heart beat! as far as parts go the only thing I ran into was exhaust I used the patriot 8012's and they fit fine with a little mod to the pass. side frame rail. But unforunatly I over heated the car over the weekend and craked a head so Im in a very crapy mood, but I will post some pics of when I first put in in there if any one can shed some light on how to post pics(never did it before)

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

best way to post pics is go to photobucket . com (remove spaces) and upload them there then copy the IMG tag into your post and the pics will show up

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

ok, so the headers dont really fit as bad as what i have read... (ive heard all kinds of horror stories about beating in the floor for clearance!)

I think im going to go ahead and pick up the engine. Heck, even if i dont put it int he car i could turn around and sell it for alot more!

So do we get some pics of this or what!!!

Re: 1984 BBc Swap

No I really did not have that much trouble at all putting the headers in,(just leave out your spark plugs till you have the headers in and bolted up) and make that dent in the pass side frame rail. I will post some pics tomarrow Ill bring my digi cam to work and load them up!
