Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

Well i have the frame mounts that i bought from spohn and i noticed that they do fit the brackets that are on the big block but we'll see how it works when i test fit tommorrow.
the camaro was previously a v6 so i dont currently have small block
brackets off a 350 so probably got hit the junkyard unless you or someone
knows where i can get some

Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

I had a large cap HEI on a BBC in my car years ago and never had to "dimple" the firewall.

The "shorty" waterpump will probably cause you some problems unless you're going to change a bunch of stuff. It won't allow you to install a power steering pump or alternator bracket. The pulley also won't line up to the crank pulley.

It will if you use the older stuff as stated. It's what I've got on the 396 in the '57. The car it came out of had AC, PS, and I'm still using the original alternator mounts. I happen to be using a Camaro alternator as well.

Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

Not everyone has access to the older brackets. Typically when you acquire a BBC, it's either a newer one or doesn't come with any accessory brackets.

Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

Well see im going off the BBC swap info i found here and it DOES say that the shorty pump frees up some space but it doesn't necessarily say i need it
so will it go in pretty much as is?
the motor is out of a 1980s suburban something like 1987-86 something like that

Most people just put on an electric water pump.

True. I had a complete '66 Impala.

Haven't heard the long accessories won't fit. 80's Suburban would be long.

Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

Just to let you know the troubles I'm going through with my 454 swap I'll chime in. It is a 1978 chevy pickup 454 going into a 1986 V6 RS chassis.

The motor is in no problem. My electric V6 radiator fan is hitting the water pump pulley. Going to have to either move the fan to the left or right or go with a pusher. I'm going to stay V-belt on mine.

For power steering I used the bbc old pump, bbc high pressure line, camaro steering box, and camaro return line. The high pressure line is twisted a little but it all bolts on.

Distributor went in no trouble if you look at my other thread.

My only problem now is getting the headers in. The 3" dumps won't clear the gap between the block and frame so I'm going to try to lift the engine and put them on. The passenger side is going to be tricky.

A dual-fan set-up might let the water pump pulley go in between them.

Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

heres a pic of mine with the long water pump and dual fan setup there is about 2" of clearance between the water pump pulley and the fans so there is room with the long setup but if you had the money i would get the short pump it would make more room for you. Name: IMG_0346.jpg

Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

I'm probably the least experienced at this, but I'm doing this also, and planning on the WS6 RamAir hood from AmericanSportscar, and reusing the alt/ps bracket from the '94 Suburban I got my 454 from. It's all serpentine. I had to minorly hammer on the oilpan after my test-fit, but I used the truck oil pan and the Moroso solid mounts, part numbers 62510 and 62610. I had no intake or distributor for my test fit.

Re: Question about brackets for 454 swap

I lowered the radiator tray about an inch and it alowed me to put the radiator a little further ahead. I'm running dual electric fans off of a olds silluette van.I am using the long v belt pullys and brackets from a 78 truck.
