Hi I am going to get my engine rebuilt. I have a tbi 350 in my 89 camaro but was thinking about putting a 350 carb. What would be better?thanks

"Better" is in the eye of the beholder.
What will you be using the car for, and what do you expect out of it?

x2....it depends on what you want out of it, IMO if you want a **** load of power you should go fuel injection, if you want a reliable, easily tuned powerhouse go carb. again, "better" is different person to person
I am going to use the car as a daily driver but i want it to sound nice and have alot of power

TBI can do that.
"A lot of power" - see "Better" above.

well if your gonna go with "a lot of power" a carb is the way to go so you can get that power without spending a small fortune on tuning tools. for a daily cold driver the tbi is gonna be better for startup since its fuel injected.
my vote is carb so long as you know how to tune it in and dont mind crankin a little when its cold. but im oldschool.

Hey clayton (above post), hes right. The best way for the budgeted mechanic to go is carb. Cheaper, easily tuned, and gives you that good old deep cammed out sound we all like to hear. On the other hand, throttle body would give you a little more long term, less maintenence liability. If you dont know a whole lot about tuning carbs, you may want to go that route. Also, I'd evaluate what kind of components your going to be throwing in this 350, and what kind of fuel source you're going to be supplying them with.

hah yea i know u now. still gotta put the RS up agains yours sometime. nd when you think about it its really the perfect test for Chris who started the thread here. if im rememberin right urs is carb with an intake and exhaust and mine is TBI with exhaust, gears and a shift kit. 305 instead of 350 like chris but same general idea. prolly b a close race.
ill b home this weekend but then not again till thanksgiving.
p.s. chris sorry bout the hijack.

the tbi has alot of low end torque the tpi has a lot of high end horsepower the tbi is also more fuel effiecient, better on cold morning startups and can even in stock form(I should no my car is bone stock) Sound pretty nasty with a decent exhaust system(nothin but a flowmaster muffler and punched out cat)

I'd vote TBI...if only to keep the car legal. I know FL is pretty relaxed with their inspection requirements, but who knows what the future holds with lawmakers and the EPA, etc. I like knowing there is no way I could fail no matter how strict they get.

the TBI does have a lot of low end, but in my experiences, so does the TPI. starts to fall on its face at higher RPMs. that's why we have things like the Stealth Ram.Originally Posted by Daves03

Fast355 pretty much explains it.
TBI hands down.

I have beaten a stock LT1 with a built 305 TBI. The best part was the exhaust though.... Headers ran to a y-pipe, then straight back. No muffler or cat, and it sounded like an expensive system. It is pretty easy to get good power and mileage out of it.
My brother had a 350 TBI out of a truck into a camaro. It was almost stock, and would break the tires loose with ease going into second. He never ran it on the track, but I bet it would have been mid to high 13's.
