I found a 454 for my TA
Hi guys I am new on here. I just wanted to say first this is a really great site.
I have a 1982 Trans Am that I am rebuilding from the ground up. I am now at the stage where I am deciding on a motor. I was planning on looking for a strong 350
But I have come across something else!
It’s a freshly built 454 big block. Now I don’t know a lot about these motors and I am assuming that this is overkill for my car, but I can pick this up for $2000
I found this for sale just down the road from my house it was built for a show car, but the guy who was building car has passed away and his brother is selling off his stuff.
Just comparing that with some of the other prices on motors where I am from that seems pretty cheap.
A guess I was just wondering if this motor will fit in my car and what are some of the major mods I would have to do to make it work?

There's a sticky in the top section of this forum about putting a big block Chevy (BBC) in a 3rd gen. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...swap-info.html

Re: I found a 454 for my TA
I've undertaken this, because while I've had strong 350s, they just don't give me the traction problems I'm wanting. I'm wanting, once in my life, a car so strong that I can go from 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, in second gear, and blaze both rear tires for as long as I keep my foot in it.
On the other hand, you'll have to slow down more for the twisties if you like to attack the canyons on Sunday mornings like I do. It just overloads the tires easier.
The price seems excellent!

But , you may end up needing a stronger trans and axle.

Went down to pick up the motor and it was sold! That sucked!

I need to post some pics for you. My Dad has a 1984 454 Camaro Z28 that might help you. Car is in Newmarket Ontario.
