454 swap in 87 iroc
454 swap in 87 iroc
hi im about to buy a 454 out of a 1 ton pickup for 800 and put it in my 87 iroc. ive had some people tell me not to put this is my car. does anyone have any advice on this.i dont want to spend this money for something thats a waste to put in it. thanks

Depends on the engine. They're not all the same. What year is it?
Truck engines are low rpm torque motors. They're usually a good platform for a buildup but don't expect much more performance in stock trim than a good 350 SBC. The first thing that should be replaced is the cam and lifters followed by the intake and probably carb. Depending on the castings, the heads are probably restrictive peanut port heads but there are a few good older castings.
If you follow the sticky, the swap isn't that hard but it's not as easy or cheap as a good SBC.

it will bolt up but ull need to have it built to withstand the torque when u make that motor really put out power.....
