TPI swap from TBI

so I've been trying to find out which fuel lines to replace... I know I have to replace the rubber ones to higher pressure but do I need to change the metal chassis fuel rails? I found one site that shows new metal lines are the same for both but ac delco told me that it isn't a good idea... I looked @ a v6 mpi and the rails were mounted the same and looked the same but they end up about 4 inches higher up from the ones on the tbi. the motor and tranny are out of the car so I want to do this before I drop in the motor. whoever has done this before, do you have any input??? I know we are going from 9-14 psi to over 50 psi. so once again I already know to change the rubber ones. the metal ones on chassis are the ones in question. I also saw the option of oem steel or stainless but I dont think that pressure can make any difference between the two... any input much appriciated.. thanx

Re: TPI swap from TBI

go to the articles in the begining of the site - or do a search of tpi and there is a complete list.
you will need to replace the fuel pump in the gas tank and re-do all the fuel lines. you will also need a retrun line to the gas tank so that you dont have a fuel pressure build-up in the unit.
you really need to look at the article in the begining of this site - its is great. it will give you every thing you need and why you need it.
you did notice that you have a return line on your fuel rails?
you should pump out enough pressure to make sure you dont starve the injection.
the article is entitled converting your 90-92 tbi to speed density tpi. ITS GREAT - read every word of it, then print it out and make sure you have everything and have it with you when you do the actual work.
its a lot more complicated that just bolting it on.
did you get a harness with it? if not you will need one and the computer system. if you are in a smog state like california you cant just get an aftermarket one - you need one with all the hookups for the smog system.
call classic industries at 800-854-1280. i keep them on speed dial. they sell the original equipment wiring harness for about 400.00. it was discontinued some time ago but it used to sell from over 1200.00 from chevy or pontiac.
you have a long way to go before you actually put it on. and no, your current wiring harness will not work and neither will the computer, although the box MAY work if you put in new chips for the tpi. i just replaced the entire box so i dont actually know.
and as to your original question. you will be going from 14 lbs of pressure to 50, so yes you will need to replace the lines.
good luck.

Re: TPI swap from TBI

I have everything I need I have 4 cars all different camaros and trans am. I am familiar with all that info from that article it saved my *** cuz I would have thrown it in my other camaro tbi that runs and that would have been all bad. I got a trans am with tuned port and thats what i'm putting in a clean 92 that was tbi. All I need to know is if the metal chassis fuel lines need replaced and the article u speak of is very confusing in that area. I think its telling me to upgrade to higher pressure rubber only and then a metal piece between the pump and the metal chassis lines. is that wrong? also what if I have a Tbi going into a V6? do I have to downgrade?

Since the factory started using plastic line in '93 for higher pressures than TPI, I don't think you need to upgrade the TBI hardlines.
