looking @ car w/ 350 swap, have some ?'s about power

I'm going to buy an 86 Z28 tomorrow if it all checks out.. this is what I was told:

"It includes a chevy 350 crate engine with a rebuilt msd ignition system and a holly 650 carb. I added new headman short headers, magnaflow cat, and flowmaster 3 inch catback system. The powertrain has an aluminum drive shaft and a 3.73 posi rear."

I asked if the car was fast before the transmission went, and the guy said "eh, it was alright."

If anybody is familiar with this sort of setup, any guess on what the power output might be on this car? Also is it really that bad of a setup for the guy to not think it was very quick, or am I missing something here?

It really doesn't look that old, I think I recall him telling me it was installed about 5 years ago.. so i'm guessing it's a fairly new engine does this seem like a good starting point to make 350 hp?

Are you used to driving honda's? If so, it will be fast. For the average V8 car, it will be a decent performer. Its too bad it isn't TPI.

Assuming the crate engine is 5 years old should I be thinking along the lines of 200,250, 300hp?

I just wish I could figure out more about the engines internals, but the current owner doesn't know the engine was installed before he bought it.

I'm trying to avoud any computer controlled electronics - this project is just a competition between two friends to test our abilities, and as usual try to 1 up each other.

I bought a camaro he bought a mustang, I bought a 06 WRX STi he was going to buy an Evo.. I bought a 97 supra he bought a 95 3000GT We just like to have fun I guess, and cars are our way of doing so.

"Chevy 350 crate engine" could mean a lot of different things.

Best bet would be to pull a valve cover (or both) and check the head casting numbers. That tells you more about the engine than anything else. This is assuming, of course, that it really is a 350 and not a 305 with 350 heads on it.
