Engine Swap from 305 CID to 350 CID Ram Jet

I have a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS 25th Anniversary Edition with a 305 CID V8 and the stock 5 speed manual transmission. I already have the motor out and completely dissassembled. The transmission was pulled as well and completely rebuilt. The transmission is ready to go back in. What I would like to do is replace the 305 CID engine with the GM Performance Parts 350 CID Ram Jet that is available from JEGS. The part number is #809-12499120. This particular motor comes with 350HP/400TQ. I have spoken with a bunch of the people at JEGS but I keep getting different answers and I have no idea of who I am suppossed to believe. Basically I would like to have this motor in my car. I need advice, part numbers, and where I can get them from. I need that information for the following:

1. Radiator and Electric Fan Setup

2. Will I have a hood clearance issue with the Ram Jet 350? If so, how big of a cowl induction hood will I need? And What hardware will I need to install the new hood?

3. Performance Clutch and Flywheel that is at a reasonable price

4. This motor does come with the distributor, cap, and rotor assembly but I would like to upgrade to an MSD Distributor - Complete. Also, I would be using a set of MSD Spark Plug Wires. So I need to get part numbers for the distributor, spark plug wires.

5. What would be the best spark plug to use for this motor? For the best performance at a reasonable price?

6. The biggest problem is with the fuel and electrical . What do I need to do about the fuel pump that is in this car and the lines that run from the gas tank to the engine???? Do I need a bigger fuel pump???? Or would I be able to stay with the stock fuel pump????

7. Besides the issues that I have stated above, what else do I need to do in order to make this motor work for my car???????????

To everyone that replies to this post thank you in advance

Regards,

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Active duty?

I'll take a shot at your questions:

1) Stock would be fine.
2) No hood clearance problems.
3) I haven't really looked into that, but the Transmission/Driveline forum should have information about that.
4) The distributor that comes with the engine will do just fine. No benefit from the expense.
5) The AC plugs it comes with will be just fine.
6) The stock TBI pump will not quite cut it. The Walbro 255 is a popular replacement.
7) It isn't emissions legal, and can't be made emissions legal.

Re: Engine Swap from 305 CID to 350 CID Ram Jet

Yah im on active duty status and stationed at Ft. Polk, LA. This ram jet 350 comes with a wiring harness for the motor and a MEFI controller. Is the MEFI controller a computer. Does it replace the stock computer?

And I should be able to use the stock hood with this motor even thought the intake in much taller than the stock intake on my 305 that I pulled out?

The MEFI only runs the engine, so it doesn't replace the computer. Leave the computer in because it should still run your fuel pump, but your shift light won't work anymore.

The intake is higher than the carb intake, but no taller than the intake/carb/air cleaner.

GM High-Tech Performance magazine did an article on the install. http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ure/index.html
