HELP!! Wiring Harness Question ? ?

I am installing a 350 / TH350 into my 87 Camaro.
I have an 87 carb computer, My question is, Will an 84 carb engine wiring harness plug-in and work with the 87 carb computer?
Also, Can the stock fuel injection engine harness be modified to work with a carb and No emmisions?
Any help on this would be great, Thanks!

Only if the '84 is L69. The '87 will have knock sensor and electric radiator fan, while the '84 LG4 didn't have either.

EFI harness to carb computer - forget it.

Re: HELP!! Wiring Harness Question ? ?

All together, I have
-The original 87 EFI 2.8 wiring harness and computer out of the car.
-I bought a seperate 87 Carb computer.
What do I need at this point? I am going with NO emmisions.
Someone told me I can modify the original engine harness, (cut off the plugs that you dont need) pull the check engine light. And the computer wont know theres nothing there It will just think theres a prob, Hence pulling the check engine light. Is this correct? Im confussed.

Are you going to run a computer carb or not?

If yes, you need an '86 or '87 carb computer harness.

If not, you don't need the computer at all. The wires you need come from the other engine harness that plugs into the firewall on the driver's side. You can modify that V6 harness to do the job.

You will need to provide a means of powering the in-tank electric fuel pump or remove the pump, and a means of locking up the torque converter clutch if you're running a TH700R-4.

Re: HELP!! Wiring Harness Question ? ?

I dont have the carb yet. So I guess I could go either way. I have the carb sending unit in the tank now (I just switched from the fuel injected one) With a mechanical fuel pump. I have the carb fuel lines also for the car. I am running a TH350 trans on the 350sb with HEI distributor. What do I need to get OR what do I need to do at this point to get the car all hooked up to try and fire? Thanks for ALL your help !!!

IF you go computer controlled carb, you will need:
Computer controlled carb
Computer controlled distributor
Harness and sensors for computer controlled carb

The distributor and coil changed from '86 to '87, so if you get an '86 harness, you need to get an '86 distributor. If you get an '87 harness, you need to get an '87 distributor and coil.

I believe the alternator and AC connectors also changed from '86 to '87.

I don't know for a fact whether or not the computer changed between '86 and '87. It may have, since they went to in-tank electric pump in '87, but they may not have - I just don't know.

IF you go non-computer controlled and you currently have an HEI distributor that has vacuum and mechanical advance, you need to get a non-computer controlled carburetor. What you need will depend upon your intake manifold, which I assume is a spreadbore type, but need more information from you on that.

Re: HELP!! Wiring Harness Question ? ?

Okay, I know my HEI dist has vacuume advance, Not sure if it has mechanical? I have a "profesional products" square bore manifold with about a 3 inch rise. The motor Im installing is a Pre 86 Goodwrench crate motor.

If it's got vacuum advance, it's got mechanical advance.

Your intake will require a square bore carb, if you want to avoid using an adapter. So, unless you replace the intake, you probably don't want to do a computer controlled carb.

So, you don't need the computer, and you don't need the computer harness. The harness that comes from the driver's side can be modified to run the engine, or you can get a V8 harness from that side.

Re: HELP!! Wiring Harness Question ? ?

Great, Thats what I have, A Square bore manifold. What carb would you recommend and with what features on the carb? (Edelbrock, Holley, ect.)I assume manual choke? Is electric choke computer controlled? I would like to thank you again, Your advice has been Awsome, Really helps me understand better.
