hey guys. I just blew my LB9 motor, and I'm looking to see what I could replce it ith but I don't know what engines would fit...

I want an engine stronger than the LB9, but I don't know what the best engine would be to get...also, I want it to be able to fit m current tranny...

I'm currently in college for this stuff, so I don't know to much yt. So, if anyone could help, That'd be AMAZING!

Any small block chevy will fit it,350 and 383 are
common upgrades. the 700r4 used behind the 2.8/3.1
60* v6s have a different bellhousing and some internal
differences,from what i've heard the 60* version can
be modified to fit the normally transverse mounted
aurora/northstar GM DOHC v8s,but i don't know if
those engines can fit in a thirdgen-with the overhead
cams they are pretty wide.

 

Any Chevy V8 up to the LSx types. And the 4.3l V6.

 

so if i bought a 383 stroker, it'd fit perfectly? or would I have to do any modifications?

 

383 will fit right in,will have to use different injectors
and probably a different ECM chip,best to upgrade
the exhaust for the bigger engine.don't know if stock
cooling system will work good with 383,probably will
but if not, lots of upgrades are avalible. with tpi and the
right cam,383 will make massive low-end torque!

As usual, the devil is in the details. There were several different configurations of 350's built over the years, and you have to know what you're starting with in order to know what you'll end up with.

383 was not a factory configuration. It's made from a 4" bore block with a 3.75" stroke crank. The majority of them have been built with 2-piece rear main seals, which your car currently does not have. Most of the 383's are "external balance", meaning you have to use a special flexplate and harmonic damper on it. However, you can get a 383 with 1-piece rear main seal and internal balance.

As you have already observed, it isn't a cheap thing to do. You can make it more expensive by not knowing what you're getting.

"Fit perfectly"? No. Can be made to fit perfectly? Yes. Modifications? Almost certainly - at least beef up the transmission, rear end, chassis, and suspension to take the extra power if nothing else.
