4th gen engine swap

Is the transmission in my 1994 3.4l v6 the same 4l60e that was in the z28 lt1 car? If so, what exactly would be the process (as far as you can get into detail, I'm trying to add up cost to get a plan of action) to complete the swap if I keep the automatic and rear end assembly? (The tranny's fine, it's the engine thats dying, so mostly for money reasons). I'm already looking at $1500.00 for the engine (accessories, harness, computer etc.) so I don't have alot of wiggle room. I already tried just finding a v8 car, but around here unless you have at least $6000.00, you can't touch one.

Thanks

Re: 4th gen engine swap

Yes & no.
They are both 4L60s, but one from a 60 degree v6 will not bolt up to a 90 degree v8. not sure you'd want to anyway, as a healthy LT1 would probably kill a stock v6 trans.
Why is the 6 dying? If money is an issue, a modified v6 could be had for less money and could be used until you have saved for a v8......

Re: 4th gen engine swap

better option to rebuild your v6 and build yourself a single turbo.
if its efi, a fmu and some 36 lb. injectors will support over 300hp

I was going to swap the torque converter for one from an lt car, if i did that and put on the correct bellhousing would the transmission really be that much of a bear to deal with? (as far as stresses and durability go, after all everything from the tc & bell back they were the same right?)

The engine while technically efi is the SFI system (of DOOM!!!)
This engine has already been rebuilt once (according to the original owner, I'm still a bit suspicious of this as it says "runs good" in yellow paint on the intake manifold and I haven't gotten down in there to check the vin yet) and has 126050 on the rebuild plus 115000 on the original build, so would rebuilding it again be an option? can the block take that kind of stress at this point? my initial thought was to have the engine bored to somewhere around 3.6l or 4.0l and built accordingly + maybe headers, keeping some of my original hardware from the engine (eg: computer, intake manifold, ac compressor) and not get into a whole lot of trouble. the biggest thing is that this is my daily driver, it gets me from school back home everyday, so while 300 hp would be nice i'd settle for 215-230 hp range. is this at all do-able with the 3.4l i have now?
