engine swap question no wrong answer

so im going to an auction to get a car so i can swap every thing in to my 90 v6 camaro so my question is should i get the caprice with the lt1 or the camaro with the ls1 . can i just swap everything or do i have to buy parts for the ls1 swap i know that the lt1 swap is pretty straight forward i was just wondering if the ls1 swap is worth the extra work if there is any. thanks

i think the ls swap would be worth the extra effort, if i had the dough, thats what i would be doing.

Re: engine swap question no wrong answer

depends on the year of the ls1, if its an 01 or 02 go for it! ifs its an earlier one, they have issues with the oil pump and rod bolts.

but, the ls1 car would have all the wiring, accessories act that you would need to do an lsx swap, so if its low mileage, and the price is right, its not a bad deal

I would pass on the lt1 in either case IMHO.

LS1 would be worth the extra work plus built in upgradeability.

you will still need conversion parts, they range from motor mounts, trans mounts, various fasteners, maybe a trans crossmember, ect.

Re: engine swap question no wrong answer

be careful with getting a caprice with an lt1.....(which will be an old police car)..because not all are 5.7ltr motors.....some of them are 4.8ltrs....just a tad bid of info for ya...

If you are not into fabing your own stuff Hawks sells conversions parts. They have headers too but they are $800.

82-92 Camaro/Firebird LS1 Conversion Motor Mounts with Transmission Crossmember

Re: engine swap question no wrong answer

I would think the factory exhaust from the LS1 could be made to work.

its an entirely different car, its not going to be a direct swap.

you would probably use the factory LS1 manifolds, and fab something from there. I do not think the y-pipe setup will work.
