Buying A Crate Engine
I need to replace my 350 out of my IROC, I live in cali, yeah i know smog sucks, but which one is my best option? I need to keep all my TPI stuff, and the smog legal crap. I dont really want to buy a long block or short block just replace the whole thing. Any ideas? Suggestions?

A long block is everything but your TPI stuff.
Two of my brothers got a rebuilt engine from these guys http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...33109440066.4e for their trucks. One has been going 4-1/2 years with a lot of miles on it with no problems. The other about a 18 months also with a lot of miles and no problems. They'll put together an exact replacement for you. You'll need your pan, covers, and rear main seal carrier, they'll supply the oil pump, gaskets, and new seals.
There really isn't a new replacement L98 available anymore.

I know theres not an exact replace for the L98, but what would work if i was to buy an engine from gmpp. 350, 350 H.O., 350 ZZ4, CT 350??

Re: Buying A Crate Engine
I just recently bought an engine from www.rebuiltcrateengines.com and they sell the original 350 motor rebuilt to exact gm specs in a long block for 995. Plus shipping and core charge. they are out of Texas. I have a 91 Camaro that had a 305 and I am also switching to a 350 but i bought one of their higher horsepower long blocks. But i did consider the factory 350 but for only a few hundred dollars more you get a lot more horsepower. The use remanufactured blocks to keep the prices down. You can give them a call if you have any questions they are nice guys.

Re: Buying A Crate Engine
Try www.phoenixengine.com Im also needing to replace my 5.7 in my 89 IROC. They have a 310 hp engine that will work with your stock computer for 2300.00 Im also looking at the previous post www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com they said they would put a bigger cam in and bigger valves shipped to my door for 2086.00. I Just I knew someone who had one already. I know I wont have the fastest IROC out there but I dont want a toilet either! Email me and let me know if you decide on something. Thanks

"California" and those engines don't play well together. You can probably pass off a ZZ4 as a Corvette TPI engine, but you'll need the Corvette EGR system at the very least.
